ECO-Block, LLC chairman dies

29 July 2003

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. – ECO-Block, LLC today announced the death of its chairman and founder, Jim Moore. He succumbed to cancer early Sunday morning, July 27.

“Jim was a builder, an inventor and a person of vision,” said Joseph Lake, CEO. “This is a sad, sad time. The loss of his friendship and leadership will be forever felt.”

Moore founded ECO-Block in 1998. The company is now widely regarded as the industry leader in insulating concrete forms (ICFs). He held patents to numerous ICF-related products. A Harvard University graduate and a former U.S. Marine Corp captain, Moore distinguished himself throughout his long entrepreneurial career. Previously, he served as owner/manager of American Tech Services, Ltd., a construction company with operations in the Middle East; founder of a private investment banking company that raised capital for and built nine independent TV stations nationwide; and owner/manager of a real-estate development firm in the Caribbean.

Moore named Lake to the position of chief executive officer in late February 2003. Lake, a West Point graduate and decorated war veteran, has more than 30 years of business management experience and worked closely with Moore.

In a statement read today by Jan Moore, Moore’s widow, she noted, “Jim treasured the friendships that were created at ECO-Block, and he was very proud of the team’s hard work and dedication. At all times, Jim remained confident in the team of professionals that he helped to assemble and was assured that his vision for the company would be continued.”

The sentiments were echoed by other members of the management team. Lake added, “This tremendous loss does nothing but strengthen our resolve and determination to carry on Jim’s commitment to excellence and the mission he set forth for ECO-Block. This is more than a business; it’s a dream we have every intention of fully realizing. We plan to change the way America builds – a way that’s cheaper, better and faster. Jim Moore’s legacy will live on.”
